2/1/07A pod of 12 Bottlenose Dolphins was seen off Marazion SW515301

3/1/07A pod of 7 or more Bottlenose Dolphins was watched hunting and feeding with some breaching for 40 minutes off The Greeb SW5229

4/1/073 Janthina janthina and one J.pallida Violet Sea-snails and cuttlefish bones of Sepia officiinalis, S.elegans and S.orbigniana were found on the strandline at Perranporth SW756544, and in a cast up specimen of the Common Mussel Mytilus edulis a Pea Crab Pinnotheres pinnotheres .

4/1/072 Grey Triggerfish, 39 cm and 25 cm long, and 10 Goose barnacles attached to a piece of wood, were found on the strandline at Mawgan Porth SW8467

6/1/07A very small Kemp’s Ridley Turtle was found stranded alive on the high tide line at Woolacombe Beach SS450420 North Devon. Two BDMLR medics were surfing there at the time and their attention was drawn to the stranded turtle. They arranged to meet a representative of West Hatch RSPCA wildlife hospital who had agreed to give it temporary accommodation and treatment. A couple of days later it was transferred to the Weymouth Sea Life Centre’s Turtle rehabilitation Centre where they have more experience with turtles and facilities to deal with it. The centre was very surprised to receive such a small turtle, which was only about 35cm long. The female turtle was very hypothermic on arrival, with a bleak outlook, but after raising its temperature and initiating feeding, it began to recover well. The staff are now hopeful of releasing it back into the wild off The Canaries in late April.

13/1/078 to 10 Harbour Porpoises were watched feeding in rough seas for 10 minutes, 100 yards off Porthcothan Bay SW8572 with Herring Gulls overhead

14/1/07A Sea Purse tropical Bean, Dioclea reflexa, 3 dead Triggerfish, 3 Violet Sea Snails and 3 groups of Goose Barnacles, one attached to a piece of plastic the others to pieces of wood, were found on the strandline at Sennen SW3526

19/1/076 dolphins, probably Bottlenose Dolphins, were seen heading east from St. Ives NCI Lookout SW521411 at 0945 hrs.

20/1/073 Fin Whales were feeding with hundreds of seabirds off Porthgwarra SW371216 from 1430 to 1530 hrs. One surfaced 250metres from shore, and 3 were seen to spout at the same time. They moved out and away to the west.

21/1/073 Fin Whales were seen off Porthgwarra SW371216 during the morning, They were well offshore. Whale spouts were seen off Land’s End SW342253, inside the Longships Lighthouse, as they headed north at 1600 hrs

21/1/07About 500 Goose Barnacles were found attached to a large piece of stranded driftwood at Watergate Bay SW8464. They looked fresh and newly stranded with 45mm shells and 75mm peduncles.

21/1/07A Stranded large plastic buoy with about 100 Goose Barnacles attached was found on the tide line at Sennen SW3626. Among the barnacles were 4 Columbus Crabs, Planes minutus, but one was dead. The other three were collected and taken to The Blue Reef Aquarium at Newquay

21/1/07A 5 metre male Pilot whale carcass was washed up on Saunton Sands SS4335

22/1/07A Columbus Crab was found among Goose Barnacles stranded on a large log at Watergate Bay SW8464. It was taken alive to PlymouthUniversity where it seems to be doing quite well.

27/1/07There was a sighting of what was believed to be a Harbour Porpoise, approximately 75 metres off Haldon Pier, Torquay SX916631. It appeared to be feeding

28/1/07A Bottlenose Dolphin was seen following a Canoeist and generally milling about at Broadsands Tor Bay SX895575 at 1130 hrs

29/1/072 Harbour Porpoises were seen ¼ mile south of Logan Rock SW396219 at 0930 hrs

4/2/07A pod of 6 to 10 Harbour Porpoises with some juveniles, were feeding off Kellan Head, Port Quin SW969812 at 1300 hrs They were actively feeding, chasing fish. Further out to sea, lots of gannets were feeding in a bait-ball fashion, indicating the presence of lots of fish.

4/2/072 or 3 Harbour Porpoises were off St. Anthony Head SW846311, 200 metres toward Black Rock. They did not appear to be feeding and did not stay in the area for long. A yacht in the area stopped and did not harass the animals

4/2/07A pod of 8 Bottlenose Dolphins including a juvenile, was seen just outside Penzance Harbour SW476303 at 1430 hrs. They seem to be very attracted to moving boats. When the boat stopped, they moved away, but as soon as the boat started to move again they surrounded it.

4/2/077 Common Dolphins and a baby, were in MountsBay in position 50º6.80N 5º31.06W at 1455 hrs

5/2/07Six dolphins were seen passing the headland from the NCI Lookout at Rame Head SX422488 at 1030 hrs

5/2/072 Harbour Porpoises, including a juvenile, were seen heading north just west of the Brisons SW340311 at 1030 hrs, and at least 6 Harbour Porpoises, including a juvenile, were feeding with seabirds 600 metres to 1 Km south of Porthgwarra Cove SW371216 at 1230 hrs

7/2/072 Harbour Porpoise were 300 metres west of Sennen Harbour SW350263 and two more were 400 metres north of the harbour from 1230 to 1330 hrs

14/2/07At least 6 Bottlenose Dolphins, including one juvenile, came into St. Ives Bay SW5241 from the north from 1230 to 1300 hrs.

14/2/06A pod of 8 to 11 Bottlenose Dolphins, including 2 juveniles, headed eastward into St. Ives Bay SW5241, at 1515 hrs, breaching and playing as they went and then stopped, and appeared to be feeding for a while in an area off the Holiday Park. At 1545 hrs they resumed playing, but some of the play seemed to be quite aggressive toward the two young ones, looking like a severe telling off, by the adults.

20/2/076 Bottlenose Dolphins, including one juvenile, were just west of St. Michael’s Mount SW515301 from 0930 to 1000 hrs, and 2 Harbour Porpoises were west of the Brisons SW340311 at 1230 hrs

24/3/075 or 6 Bottlenose Dolphins, including young, arrived off Gyllyngvase Beach SW808316 at 1630 hrs, but were harassed by a jetskier who drove into and around the pod at speed numerous times. Ignoring many people on the beach who protested. Eventually he moved away and the pod quickly headed back east.

25/3/072 Bottlenose Dolphins were inside Fowey Estuary SX120510, bow riding boats up and down the river for 2 hours from 1500 hrs. One of the dolphins had a golf ball sized chunk out of the rear base of its dorsal fin

6/4/07During a watch off Capstone Point SS519418 a Harbour Porpoise was seen heading slowly east, 300 metres off, from 1014 to 1224 hrs and a Grey Seal was bottling 500 metres to the west. At 1100 hrs 3 Harbour Porpoises were seen resting and milling with some surface activity, but no breaching, whilst drifting west 300 metres off, and later at 1800 hrs a Grey Seal was seen bottling for about 1 minute 100 metres west of the Point.

6/4/07A Fin Whale was seen off Nare Head SW916370

7/4/0720 dolphins, in three groups were seen heading east in St. Austell Bay SX0449 during the day

7/4/072 Bottlenose Dolphins were in the mouth of Penzance Harbour SW476303, between the piers from 0930 to 1010 hrs, with several boats in the area, but there was no serious harassment. They were young dolphins, not fully adult, but not juveniles, one with a notch out of its tail, they finally headed out to sea.

7/4/07A pod of about 15 Dolphins was seen close inshore off Black Head SW779162 near Coverack over the Easter Weekend, and a much larger pod of maybe 100 or more was seen further offshore. These were probably Common Dolphins.

7/4/072 known young Bottlenose Dolphins, one with a notch out of its dorsal fin, were seen off the mouth of Fowey Harbour SX120509 at 1530 hrs. This pair was seen off Penzance at 1000 hrs.

7/4/072 or 3 Harbour Porpoises were seen from Scillonian III at 1010 hrs when she was off Lands End SW341253. Theyporpoised across the bow heading south.

21/4/07A 10 metre Basking Shark was close inshore off Porthcurno SW387222 at 1415 hrs

21/4/07A 24 ft Basking Shark arrived at the Manacles SW8120 from Black Head at about noon and fed there for a few hours with lots of mackerel at the surface for miles around.

21/4/07At 0830 hrs there was a lot of dolphin activity just outside Penzance Harbour SW476306 until a dive boat left the harbour, when the Bottlenose dolphins headed east and the Commons headed south west. There were estimated to be about 15 to 20 in each pod.

21/4/07A 12 to 15 ft Basking Shark was feeding in MountsBay near the wreck site of The Heliopes in position approximately 50º03N 05º29Wat 0930 hrs

25/4/07A Grey Seal was first spotted close to the mooring buoy H08 in the fairway channel at Mylor Yacht Harbour SW823352 at 1258 hrs. and then watched for 10 minutes travelling 8 feet away from the water taxi.

27/4/07A 3 metre Basking Shark was 5 metres from the beach at Porthcurno SW387222 at 1515 hrs

28/4/07Two well known young Bottlenose Dolphins, Cookie and Sleekie, were in the surf with surfers at Sennen Cove SW3526 at 1230 hrs and were spotted again 500 metres offshore at 1530 hrs.

28/4/07A pod of 5 or 6 dolphins, including one juvenile, was seen heading east off the Polruan NCI Lookout SX122508. One was semi albino, so they were probably Risso’s Dolphin.

28/4/073 Basking Sharks were seen between Runnelstone SW369200 and Tater du SW440230 from 1530 to 1545 hrs. One was quite large and the others smaller.

28/4/0740 to 60 Harbour Porpoises made a considerable amount of noise as they seemed to be chasing mackerel about 2 to 3 miles offshore near Kingsmere Rocks, Sussex.

28/4/07A 5 metre Basking Shark was off ogan Rock SW397220 at 1145 hrs and a 4 metre Basking Shark was off Porthguarnon SW410230 at 1235 hrs

28/4/07A Grey Seal was seen below the Watch at Cape Cornwall SW349318 at 1500 hrs

28/4/074 Harbour Porpoises, including one juvenile, were seen breaching 3 Km off Church Cove SW715127 from 1250 to 1304 hrs. and a Basking Shark was feeding about ¾ Km offshore

29/4/07A Basking Shark, with a white nose and the top part of its tail fin shredded, was seen close to the east side of Cannis Rock SX102490. Gulls were following the shark.

29/4/07A 3 to 4 metre Basking Shark was feeding in WhitsandBay in position 50º19.11N 04º23.21WIt came very close to divers at the surface who saw 2 remoras on its right hand side just aft of its dorsal

3/5/0712 Risso's Dolphins were first seen ½ mile southeast of Fowey SX120510 and again 30 minutes later in Lantic Bay SX11450. Thepod included 5 juveniles, and were swimming in circles. When seen later they had split into two groups, occasionally breaching.

7/5/072 Grey Seals were seen swimming off Botallack Head SW361338 at 1500 hrs

8/5/073 Risso's Dolphins were spotted in St. John’sLake SX4454 at 1630 hrs They were off the western end of Marine Drive Torpoint on the Torpoint side of a moored barge 1/3 of the way across the lake. One breached more often than the others, and was white on its back from its head to the dorsal. They were still in the area at 2000 hrs.
