1/1/05 A single Bottlenose Dolphin was seen off Babbacombe SS3925
1/1/05 A Grey Seal was seen resting in the sun at a sheltered spot in Talland Bay SX226514
2/1/05 A pod of 5 or more Harbour Porpoises were seen heading westward from the coast path east of Rame Head SX427476. They were moving slowly but one did briefly breach, and they were followed by Lesser Black Back Gulls.
3/1/05 A dead Triggerfish and thousands of Krill were found stranded on the beach at Polzeath SW9378
4/1/05 A Harbour Porpoise was seen off Berry Head SX948567
4/1/05 At least 4 Harbour Porpoises were feeding with about 50 Gannets off Charlestown SX045515
6/1/05 A pod of about 20 small cetaceans, 5 to 6 ft long, spent most of the day in St. Ives Bay. Showing only an occasional black back and small dorsal they were probably Harbour Porpoises.
9/1/05 A dead Triggerfish was found on the beach at Treyarnon SW857740 and two Triggerfish at Mawgan Porth SW8467 and one more at Porthcothan SW8572
9/1/05 A Grey Seal surfaced briefly off Porthpean SX034505 and later a female surfaced several times off Charlestown SX045515
10/1/05 A dead Herring Gull was found on the beach at Porthcothan SW8572 and a plump, freshly dead Guillemot, heavily oiled, at Constantine SW8574
10/1/05 Hundreds of By-the-wind-Sailors, Velella velella, were found stranded at Thurlstone Beach SX674414 and 3 species of Cuttlefish bones were present, and many Turban Topshells, Gibbula magnus and Necklace or Moon Shells, Polinices sp. were found washed up at Slapton Sands SX830443
11/1/05 A Grey Seal was seen west of the Three Stone, Pendeen Watch SW387363
12/1/05 A flock of local Black-headed Gulls at Sennen SW3526 included at least 10 individuals that were moderately oiled and also 2 Mediterranean Gulls in the same state. Several Auks on a rough sea also appeared to be oiled.
14/1/05 A dead, fresh, clean and thin Razorbill was found at Watergate SW8464 and a dead, plump, fresh and medium oiled Guillemot at Mawgan Porth SW8467
15/1/05 At Least 2 Harbour Porpoises were seen off Charlestown SX041515 feeding with a few Gannets
16/1/05 A Grey Seal was seen east of the causeway at Marazion SW518302
16/1/05 A Grey Seal as seen bottling off Pordenack SW345241
17/1/05 A Grey Seal was seen in the west end of St. Ives Bay off Carbis Bay SW526395
17/1/05 A Thresher Shark was seen just off the quay at Mevagissey SX0144. It was feeding on a shoal of anchovies, flicking it’s tail about and small fish could be seen flying through the air.
19/1/05 A Harbour Porpoise was seen moving slowly westward about 150 metres off Penzance promenade SW472297 at 1130 hrs.
22/1/05 2 adult and 1 young Grey Seals were on the beach at Porthpean SX032506. One of the adults was covered in blood and appeared to be injured.
22/1/05 A fresh clean underweight dead Guillemot and a freshly dead 15 spined Stickleback were found on the beach at Watergate SW8464.
23/1/05 Dozens of Goose Barnacles, Lepas anatifera, were found attached to debris stranded on the beach at Polzeath SW9378. Photos were taken.
24/1/05 A pod of 6 large dolphins, probably Bottlenose, were seen at the mouth of the River Yealm SX5147
24/1/05 A flock of about 150 Gannets were watched for 20 minutes diving, about 20 at a time, while feeding 100 metres offshore at Trevone Bay SW888761.
26/1/05 A fresh underweight clean dead Guillemot was found on the beach at Watergate SW8464
26/1/05 At least 2 Harbour Porpoises were among feeding gulls in rough seas just south of Widemouth SS197022
28/1/05 3 Bottlenose Dolphins were in Sennen Bay SW3526 during the morning.
28/1/05 3 Bottlenose Dolphins were seen just outside Sennen Harbour SW350263 at 1430 hrs.
30/1/05 4 Harbour Porpoises in groups of two, one and one, were seen ½ to 1 Km offshore between Porthgwarra SW371216 and Porthcurno SW387222 from 1400 to 1500 hrs.
30/1/05 A pod of about 20 dolphins was seen off harlyn Bay SW8775
31/1/05 At least 5 Harbour Porpoises were seen feeding beneath Gannets ½ to 1 Km off Porthgwarra SW371216
31/1/05 58 Grey Seals, including 6 pups, were hauled out on the beach near Buckator SX117934
31/1/05 A female Grey Seal surfaced several times off Charlestown
31/1/05 A large Grey Seal was watch feeding amongst kelp gullies at Zone Point SW850310. First seen at 0900 hrs and was seen again at 2000 hrs. It was seen to catch Ballan Wrasse and Pollack
1/2/05 2 adult Grey Seals were seen playing 20 metres offshore in a 2ft swell at Booby’s bay SW857754
1/2/05 A young grey seal, just getting adult coat colour, was seen 400 metres from the waters edge on the last tide line near the cliff at Polzeath SW934795. It was alert but looked tired and seemed to be resting. There were several dogs and walkers on the beach so a watch was kept from a reasonable distance for 2 hours until the seal moved 200 metres down the beach to meet the incoming tide, as the beach became quiet
2/2/05 A dolphin which had stranded at the waters edge was successfully re-floated at 0645 hrs at Porthminster Beach SW521401 St Ives.
2/2/05 A 1½ ft long Kemp’s Ridley was found alive but in a poor condition at the waters edge at Carbis Bay SW529389. Emergency care was given and the Blue Reef Aquarium agreed to take the malnourished and exhausted turtle in for rehabilitation. Turtles in similar condition have been successfully rehabilitated there in recent years and have been flown abroad to where they are normally found for their release.
2/2/05 4 Bottlenose Dolphins were leaping and swimming around a sailboat, “Tempo”, off St Anthony Head SW846311, at 1530 hrs. The boat stopped as soon as the dolphins were spotted and they seemed to be happy to swim and play around it.
3/2/05 Unfortunately the Kemps Ridley found on the 2nd February, died at the Blue Reef Aquarium today. It was a female, malnourished and
de-hydrated, and the shell was covered in a thin layer of green/brown/black algae, A small organism, possibly a parasite, was visible near the centre of the shell. It had an infection, denoted by a pinkish colour of the costal scales. It was collected for post mortem at University of Exeter on Cornwall.
3/2/05 6 Harbour Porpoises were seen off Botallack SW361338 at 1600 hrs. At the same time a pod of fairly large dolphins was seen heading south about 2 miles offshore, too far off to be sure of the species.
3/2/05 A pod of dolphins, thought to be Common Dolphins, was seen heading south east in Fal Bay at 1515 hrs.
5/2/05 The skull and front half of a dolphin carcass, very decomposed, was found on the wreck of the “Alice Marie” about 80ft down nearly two miles south of St. Michaels Mount in Mount’s Bay SW4723. The carcass seemed to have been cleanly severed
6/2/05 A pod of dolphins, behaving like Common Dolphins, but too far off for positive identification, were seen about 1 mile off St. Anthony Head SW846311 at 1545 hrs They were too distant also to be sure of numbers, but there were at least 5
6/2/05 A large Grey Seal was seen swimming and appeared to be feeding in the sheltered cove at Penberth SW404226 from 1500 to 1700 hrs
6/2/05 2 Grey Seals were in the surf at Carbis Bay SW527393
6/2/05 A single dolphin was seen to breach several times well out in the bay off Charlestown SX050510
8/2/05 4 harbour Porpoises were seen between Porthcurno SW387222 and Porthgwarra SW371216 at 1430 hrs. They were a group of 2 and two single animals, from 500 to 1000 metres offshore.
9/2/05 3 Common Dolphins, 2 adults and a juvenile, were seen travelling fast westward off Porthgwarra SW371216 at 0900 hrs, and 2 Harbour Porpoises going west at 0950 hrs.
9/2/05 A female Grey Seal was seen offshore at high tide at Longrock SW506311
10/2/05 A large resident, dark and wrinkled bull Grey Seal was seen off lower Porthpean SX033507 chasing off an intruder, lighter coloured, almost salmon pink, unwrinkled male of the same size, and appeared to be protecting his patch.
11/2/05 2 harbour porpoises recently washed up in Bovisand Bay SX490506 has brought the total number of strandings in Devon up to 19 since November last year, 10 so far this year. 10 Common Dolphins, 6 Harbour Porpoises and 3 unidentified carcasses
14/2/05 A family of Bottlenose Dolphins, male, female and juvenile, joined a trip boat off St. Anthony Head SW846311 at 1430 hrs and they were bow riding the boat while hunting and feeding for 10 miles heading south west, toward Nare Head at 1630 hrs. One of the adults had a white spot on the left side of its dorsal, and a pale patch on its belly.
15/2/05 3 dolphins were seen from the cliffs at Polperro SX212508 at 1030 hrs. They were heading west toward Fowey about 200 to 300 metres offshore.
15/2/05 A pod of about 6 dolphins was seen off Larrick Rock SX191501 heading west. They followed the coast line around Lantic Bay
15/2/05 A pod of dolphins was seen at the entrance of Fowey Harbour SX125515
16/2/05 2 Active and healthy dolphins were seen off Tintagel Castle SX047890
16/2/05 A fairly fresh Grey Seal carcass was found at Longrock SW498317 about 100 metres off the car park. It’s eyes were missing.
16/2/05 A pod of 5 or 6 Bottlenose Dolphins was seen off Loe Bar SW643242 at 1130 hrs moving fast, north west toward Porthleven Harbour mouth SW626255 where they stayed until 1215 hrs The adults were jumping clear of the water and feeding beneath gulls in a calm sea and a juvenile in the pod was clearly seen to be bow riding one of the adults.
16/2/05 The carcass of a Grey Seal was found high up on the tide line on pebbles opposite Plumb Island SV919170 on St Martins Isles of Scilly
17/2/05 A fairly fresh Grey Seal carcass was found at Phillack Towans SW555391. The head and flippers were missing.
17/2/05 A pod of 8 Common Dolphins were bow riding a trip boat 5 miles south of Nare Head SW800247 from 1700 to 1715 hrs.
19/2/05 A Grey Seal was off Stepper Point SW915785 watching the observers on the coast.
19/2/05 3 Harbour Porpoises were seen travelling west off The Minack Theatre SW387220 and 4 more were feeding off Logan Rock SW396219 at 1230 hrs.
19/2/05 A Harbour Porpoise was watched for 10 minutes in St. Austell Bay off Black Head SX040483
20/2/05 A 4ft long cetacean was watched swimming in circles in Mylor harbour SW820353 until it became stranded. Members of the public put it back in the water and it was last seen milling around in the harbour.
20/2/05 At least 2 Harbour Porpoises were feeding with 30 or more Gannets just offshore from Charlestown Lookout Station SX046516
21/2/05 A Grey Seal was seen to toss a fish in the air and catch it in it’s mouth  off carlyon Bay Car Park SX060515. The fish was as long as the male seals head.
21/2/05 A pod of at least 8 Bottlenose Dolphins, including 2 juveniles, were off Praa Sands SW5728 between 0830 and 0850 hrs. They were hunting and feeding in calm seas beneath gulls. Then slowly headed northwest into Mounts Bay led by one of the juveniles.
21/2/05 A pod of about 15 dolphins was seen travelling south east off Trewavas Head SW596264. There were Shags and Gulls in the area.
21/1/05 2 Grey Seals, thought to be male and female, were watched for ½ hour west of Pendower Beach SW890375
22/2/05 A pod of 10 or more dolphins gave a fantastic display off Wheal Coats, Chapel Porth SW696495 before heading off at speed.
22/2/05 6 Bottlenose Dolphins were seen heading south west off pendennis Gead SW826315 at 1730 hrs
22/2/05 A Grey Seal was seen heading east just offshore at Penzance SW475295
23/2/05 A pod of Dolphins was seen at Sennen Cove at 0740 hrs.
23/2/05 There were at Least 2 Harbour Porpoises behind the Cowloe Rocks Sennen SW348266 at 1145 hrs.
25/2/05 A Leatherback Turtle, 2 to 2½ metres long was seen off Constantine SW856743 in calm seas at low water with the tide on the turn.
26/2/05 2 Grey Seals were seen off Mousehoe swimming Pool SW475259
27/2/05 20 Grey Seals were seen in Nanjizal Bay SW3523
27/1/05 At least 4 Harbour Porpoises were feeding close inshore at Charlestown SX041515 with 20 or more Gannets and 15 or more Razorbills.
28/2/05 12 Bottlenose Dolphins were feeding in Whitesand Bay, Sennen SW3526 for over an hour from 1145 to 1300 hrs
28/2/05 A Harbour Porpoise was seen south of the Brisons SW340301
28/2/05 A female Grey Seal was seen swimming between mud banks high up the River Fal off Malpas SW845429 at very low water
1/3/05 A large female Grey Seal was seen in the surf off Portscatho SW884365
2/3/05 A 157Kg Thresher Shark was caught 3 miles offshore in Fal Bay SW8028 and sold on Newlyn Market. It was caught by aboard 7.5 metre long netting vessel Peter John II out of Falmouth
2/2/05 A large male Grey Seal was seen swimming around Killyvarder Rock SX083522 in Par bay. As the tide came in and the rock submerged the seal swam away westward.
3/3/05 A pod of 5 Bottlenose Dolphins was off St Ives Island SW521411 at 1400 hrs. At 1430 three of the adults left the area and the remaining adult started pushing the calf around, toward the surface, rolling it onto it’s back, tail slapping it and jumping onto it. The calf did not appear to be attempting to escape and was flipped partially out of the water a few times. This went on for 90 minutes and at 1645 hrs the three other adults returned to the area but showed no interest in the other dolphin and calf, but were feeding nearby on a food source that was attracting the attention of seabirds. The three moved off again for a while, but soon returned to the food source. During this time the other adult continued its interaction with the calf. Choppy seas made sighting   difficult and the observer was not eventually sure that the smaller animal was a calf and not a Harbour Porpoise. The dolphins were not seen after 1700 hrs.
3/3/05 A rare Slipper Lobster was accidentally caught at 80 fathoms about 100 miles south of Penzance recently and realizing its rarity the crew of the fishing boat kept it alive in a bucket and brought it ashore and presented it to the Blue Reef Aquarium at Newquay.
6/3/05 Three dolphins, thought to be Bottlenose, were seen leaping around in the Carrick Roads SW8334.
6/3/05 A Grey Seal was spotted in the water off Godrevy SW579431
7/3/05 A pod of at least 6 harbour porpoises including 1 juvenile, was feeding under a barrage of diving gannets, gulls, guillemots and razorbills 1½ miles south of Tater du SW440230 at 1500 hrs. They came close to a boat but appeared not to be disturbed by its presence. Half an hour later and 1½ miles further south there were 3 more adult porpoises feeding under a frenzied mob of seabirds
8/3/05 8 Harbour Porpoises were seen feeding, followed by gulls, about a mile off Penzance in Mounts Bay SW4723
8/3/05 A pod of about 15 Common Dolphins was seen heading south 1km off Porthgwarra SW371216 at 1330 hrs and 2 Harbour porpoises were off the cove at 1345 hrs.
9/3/05 60 or more Common Dolphins were seen travelling west off Porthgwarra at 1100 hrs, and at least 7 Harbour porpoises were in the Runnelstone area SW369200 between 1100 and 1200 hrs in groups of 2. 2. and 3.
10/3/05 A pod of 6 to 8 Common Dolphins was seen heading slowly east off Gwennap Head SW365217 at 1100 hrs and 5 Harbour Porpoises were in the Runnelstone area SW369200, 3 in the tide race and 2 further out toward the Wolf Rock.
10/3/05 A pod of 8 or more Risso’s Dolphins was watched for 45 minutes from 1250 to 1335 hrs about 3 miles off Portreath in position 50º18.20N 05º17.50W. They appeared to be travelling north east with the flood tide and interacting with fishing gear, ground bait and fish oil deployed at the time while pelagic long lining. 4 or more metres long, grey with lighter patches and scratch scars on the body and tall dorsal fins, one was spyhopping, and some were seen feeding on fish waste on the surface.
12/3/05 A headless dead porpoise was found at Peppercombe SS380241. Although not fresh it was in a reasonable state and hadn’t been bashed about in the surf, so the head probably came off by pther means. Thia stranding make the total for Devon since 1st November 2004 to 24. 12 Common Dolphins, 9 Harbour porpoises, and 3 unidentified small cetaceans
13/3/05 A large Basking Shark was seen heading east off Porthgwarra SW371216 at 1000 hrs
13/3/05 A pod of about 14 Bottlenose Dolphins was near the August Rock SW795270 near the mouth of the Helford River at 1430 hrs, leaping and throwing fish into the air. The pod included 2 large males and a female with an infant. They came close to a small R.I.B. and 2 kayaks and were circling a snorkeller.. They stayed for about an hour and then disappeared.
13/3/05 A pod of about 5 dolphins was spotted ¼ mile off the Polruan N.C.I Station SX122508 at 0823 hrs in a calm sea.
13/3/05 6 Harbour Porpoises were within a 1km radius of Gwennap Head SW365217 in groups of 3, 2, and 1 from 1100 to 1130 hrs and 2 dolphins, thought to be Commons, were lounging about on the surface.
14/3/05  Greenpeace protesters have found 3 dead dolphins with their stomachs cut open floating at sea off the south west. Campaigners say the stomachs are likely to be slit open by fishermen in an effort to make them sink out of sight. They were found 40 miles south of Plymouth after Greenpeace volunteers in inflatable boats had disrupted pair trawling. .
17/3/05 A Grey Seal was seen heading south westerly100 to 150 ft offshore at Swanpool Beach SW803313 from 1755 to 1803. A Grey Seal had been seen in that area over the last few days by local café staff between 1600 and 1800 hrs.
18/3/05 A 20 ft Basking Shark came alongside fishing boat Silver Queen, 3 miles off Cadgwith SW722142.
19/3/05 A pod of about 7 Bottlenose Dolphins was seen heading west off Mutton Cove SW585433 passing between Godrevy Island and Godrevy Point into St. Ives Bay
19/3/05 A pod of about 7 Bottlenose Dolphins was spotted off Godrevy Cove SW580248 at 1530 hrs, heading west into St. Ives Bay. They were later seen passing Hayle Estuary and later at 1800 hrs moving around St Ives Island SW520413 into Porthmeor Beach SW515410. Small fish could be seen being flicked into the air by the dolphins, which were fairly active at the surface the whole time.
19/3/05 A pod of about 7 Bottlenose Dolphins was watched surfing with human surfers at Gwithian Towans SW579411 at 1530 hrs.
19/3/05 A Grey Seal was spotted just west of St. Michael’s Mount SW511302
20/3/05 2 Harbour Porpoises were seen heading south off the rumps SW933814
20/3/05 3 Grey Seals were seen bottling off Zennor SW4640
20/3/05 3 dolphins were spotted heading west off the coast between St Agnes and Porthtowan SW490690 during the afternoon
20/3/05 A pod of at least 7 Bottlenose Dolphins including one juvenile was seen feeding and slowly moving eastwards through the channel between Godrevy Island SW576435 and the mainland at 1740 hrs. A pair had been seen moving west through the channel about an hour earlier.
20/3/05 A Grey Seal was watched from the beach at Portnadler Bay SX245517 from 1300 to 1500 hrs. It was surfacing every 6 minutes or so in the same area and remaining on the surface for about 1 minute each time.
A cormorant was also feeding in the immediate vicinity
20/3/05 A pod of about 7 Bottlenose Dolphins was seen heading briskly westward off Newdowns Head SW704517
20/3/05 A Grey Seal was seen swimming back and forth in the bay ay Nanjizal SW358236. It was about a metre long and playing with seaweed.
22/3/05 3 dolphins, possibly Bottlenose, were seen at the edge of the bay at Sennen. SW3526. Two jumped clear of the water and all three were watched as they porpoises northwards across the bay toward Cape Cornwall.
22/3/05 A Grey Seal was seen swimming at the surface, 10ft from the beach at Sennen Cove SW3526
22/3/05 The carcass of a dead, very decomposed Pilot Whale was found washed up just north of Sprey Point near Teignmouth SX940730. It was about 4.5 metres long with no obvious wounds and due to location, size, and state of the animal there will be no post mortem.
22/3/05 A large pod of dolphins, at least 75 in number, including some juveniles, was seen heading west off St. Agnes Head, SW697515. A stationary observer watched for 15 minutes as they went past and others followed as the observer walked westward on the coast path.
They were too distant to be sure of species but were described as 2 to 3 metres long and light grey/ brown in colour. Many sea birds were in attendance.
24/3/05 A Seal was seen in St. Mawes Harbour. It had a very round head so may have been a Common Seal.
25/3/05 2 Grey Seals were seen off Pedn-men-du SW347262, in the bay where the vessel Mulheim stranded. There was a group of divers in the water at the same time.
25/3/05 A Pilot Whale was seen by a surfer 50 yds beyond the breakline between Gwithian Beach SW5742 and Godrevy. The 12ft long whale was breaking water 30 yds from the surfer, and heading north east..
26/3/05 A Grey Seal was sighted at the mouth of the river Plym off Mount Batten SX486534 at 1330 hrs.
27/3/05 2 Harbour porpoises were seen off Lands End SW341253 during the morning
27/3/05 47 Grey Seals were hauled out on rocks and the beach at the base of Beeny Cliff SX117931. Several juveniles were present.
27/3/05 A pod of 6 adult and 2 juvenile Bottlenose dolphins was seen heading slowly east between East Shag Rock SX931627 and Thatcher Rock SX944629 in Torbay from 1630 to 1642 hrs
28/3/05 A po of 6 adult Bottlenose dolphins was seen at 1703 hrs between Thatcher point SX943631 and Meadfoot Beach SX930630, travelling quickly east.
28/3/05 A pod of dolphins was seen off S. Agnes SW697515
30/3/05 A Grey Seal was seen close to shore feeding on fish from inshore nets at Constantine Bay SW858745.It was a fine day with a slight swell and light offshore wind and surfers were in the water.
30/3/05 7 Bottlenose Dolphins were seen off Porthleven Harbour SW626255
31/3/05 A pod of 8 Bottlenose dolphins were seen heading west off Crooklets Beach, Bude, SS200071. Watched by many observers on the beach they were leaping out of the water as they went
31/3/05 A pod of about 12 Common Dolphins were seen feeding off mackerel about ½ mile east of Penlee Point SW473269 at 0945 hrs.
31/3/05 5 Harbour Porpoises were seen heading slowly south west off Cambeak SX129968 at 1500 hrs. They were about ½ mile offshore and birds were diving so the porpoises were possibly feeding.
31/3/05 A pod of 30 or more Bottlenose Dolphins was spotted about 2 to 3 km north west of Baggy Point SS419406 at 1830 hrs. They were spread out over an area of 2 km by 1 km, slowly heading southwest in groups of 3 and 4.
31/3/05 A Harbour Porpoise was seen 300 metres south of Baggy Point SS419406 at 1845 and another was seen 100 metres off the north end of Saunton Sands SS4335 a little later
1/4/05 A pod of Bottlenose Dolphins was seen outside Porthleven Harbour SW626225
1/4/05 A pod of 5 or 6 Bottlenose Dolphins was seen off Gunwallow Cove  SW661204 at 1100 hrs, for about 10 minutes.
1/4/05 A Grey Seal was seen heading for Polkerris SX080520 as it crossed Par Bay.
2/4/05 A pod of up to 13 Bottlenose dolphins 2 to 3 metres long stayed with a boat for 10 minutes, heading west in Lyme bay SY1070, bow riding and swimming under the boat.
2/4/05 3 or 4 dolphins, thought to be Bottlenose, were bow riding a yacht between Dartmouth and Weymouth in Lyme Bay  SY3060
3/4/05 2 Common Dolphins were spotted from a yacht in Lyme Bay SY 3060
3/4/05 A pod of 30 or more Bottlenose Dolphins, including 3 or 4 juveniles, was cruising around, possibly feeding, in Newquay Bay SW8162 travelling slowly north. They came close to a boat for a quick play.
4/4/05 A Harbour Porpoise was seen travelling west50 metres offshore at Porthgwarra at 0930 hrs.
5/4/05 A small whale, possibly a Pilot Whale, was seen in choppy seas off Porthgwarra SW371216 during the morning.

12/4/05 A pod of 12 to 14 Bottlenose Dolphins, including 2 of 3 juveniles, was seen travelling slowly south off Watcombe Beach Babbacombe Bay SX927674 at 1500 hrs
13/4/05 A large black seal was watched off Baggy Point SS419406 at 1300 hrs eating a fish, when a flock of gulls was noticed about ½ mile offshore and beneath them spread out in a line 100metres long about a dozen Common Dolphins, they then circled in an area of about 100m diameter, moving fast with a lot of jumping possibly chasing fish. 3 were young ones keeping close to their mothers. After 50 minutes they all moved off toward the north west.
13/4/05 A large pod of 50 or more dolphins were spotted about 4 km out in Bideford Bay SS4333 close to the mouth of the Taw/Torridge Estuary. Too far off to identify, but described as being 3 to 4 metres long with an obvious beak, but a larger animal was observed in the pod which was black with a white belly and no beak and a tall sickle shaped dorsal fin. All were noted leaping, including the large animal, which made a few shallow leaps.
13/4/05 A Harbour Porpoise was seen 1½ km off Porthgwarra SW371216 at 1030 hrs
15/4/05 Two Common Dolphins were seen swimming in circles in shallow water off Porthminster Beach SW521401 St. Ives at 1330 hrs. They appeared to be reluctant to move offshore, and a watch was kept in case they became stranded. However they eventually disappeared and were not seen again.
16/4/05 3 Grey Seals were seen at Fishing Cove, Godrevy SW596429. 2 adults and a young one. One of the adults had quite a chunk out of the side of its neck. Looks like it came worst off in a fight. The young one had some sort of collar around its neck, which was too tight and cutting into its fir. Observer has been asked to contact the Seal Sanctuary.
16/4/05 A small dolphin wes seen heading north in the Fal Estuary SX8132. Just the fin was seen, there was no breaching.
16/4/05 A pod of 20 to 80 dolphins was seen midway between the Isles of Scilly and Land’s End. Too far off to identify the species, but 10 large splashes could be seen at once, over an area of maybe 300 metres.
17/4/05 A pod of at least 8 dolphins was seen diving and jumping as they made their way out of the Salcombe Estuary SX7336. The observer was disturbed by the way boats were sailing into the path of the dolphins without regard to safety.

21/4/05 A 15ft Basking Shark was found dead entangled in a fishing net about 20 miles offshore from Cadgwith When the fisherman released it the carcass sank.

There were all sizes, from large old adults to a tiny calf that blew a high-pitched squeal as it breached and spun past the stern of the boat.

9/5/05 A fishing boat off St Ives SW5241 was purposefully driven at speed through a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins repeatedly while sounding its hornin some kind of attempt to scare them away. The incident was captured on film which has been handed to the police.
10/5/05 Three more rescued Grey Seal pups were released from the National Seal Sanctuary back to the wild at Porthtowan SW690482 early this morning. Shortly afterwards a pod of at least 5 Bottlenose Dolphins rapidly crossed cove heading east with a small amount of surface activity.

2/3/05 A 157Kg Thresher Shark was caught 3 miles offshore in Fal Bay SW8028 and sold on Newlyn Market. It was caught by aboard 7.5 metre long netting vessel Peter John II out of Falmouth
3/3/05 A pod of 5 Bottlenose Dolphins was off St Ives Island SW521411 at 1400 hrs. At 1430 three of the adults left the area and the remaining adult started pushing the calf around, toward the surface, rolling it onto it’s back, tail slapping it and jumping onto it. The calf did not appear to be attempting to escape and was flipped partially out of the water a few times. This went on for 90 minutes and at 1645 hrs the three other adults returned to the area but showed no interest in the other dolphin and calf, but were feeding nearby on a food source that was attracting the attention of seabirds. The three moved off again for a while, but soon returned to the food source. During this time the other adult continued its interaction with the calf. Choppy seas made sighting   difficult and the observer was not eventually sure that the smaller animal was a calf and not a Harbour Porpoise. The dolphins were not seen after 1700 hrs.
3/3/05 A rare Slipper Lobster was accidentally caught at 80 fathoms about 100 miles south of Penzance recently and realizing its rarity the crew of the fishing boat kept it alive in a bucket and brought it ashore and presented it to the Blue Reef Aquarium at Newquay.
6/3/05 Three dolphins, thought to be Bottlenose, were seen leaping around in the Carrick Roads SW8334.

7/3/05 A pod of at least 6 harbour porpoises including 1 juvenile, was feeding under a barrage of diving gannets, gulls, guillemots and razorbills 1½ miles south of Tater du SW440230 at 1500 hrs. They came close to a boat but appeared not to be disturbed by its presence. Half an hour later and 1½ miles further south there were 3 more adult porpoises feeding under a frenzied mob of seabirds

10/3/05 A pod of 6 to 8 Common Dolphins was seen heading slowly east off Gwennap Head SW365217 at 1100 hrs and 5 Harbour Porpoises were in the Runnelstone area SW369200, 3 in the tide race and 2 further out toward the Wolf Rock.
10/3/05 A pod of 8 or more Risso’s Dolphins was watched for 45 minutes from 1250 to 1335 hrs about 3 miles off Portreath in position 50º18.20N 05º17.50W. They appeared to be travelling north east with the flood tide and interacting with fishing gear, ground bait and fish oil deployed at the time while pelagic long lining. 4 or more metres long, grey with lighter patches and scratch scars on the body and tall dorsal fins, one was spyhopping, and some were seen feeding on fish waste on the surface.
12/3/05 A headless dead porpoise was found at Peppercombe SS380241. Although not fresh it was in a reasonable state and hadn’t been bashed about in the surf, so the head probably came off by pther means. Thia stranding make the total for Devon since 1st November 2004 to 24. 12 Common Dolphins, 9 Harbour porpoises, and 3 unidentified small cetaceans

13/3/05 A pod of about 14 Bottlenose Dolphins was near the August Rock SW795270 near the mouth of the Helford River at 1430 hrs, leaping and throwing fish into the air. The pod included 2 large males and a female with an infant. They came close to a small R.I.B. and 2 kayaks and were circling a snorkeller.. They stayed for about an hour and then disappeared.
13/3/05 A pod of about 5 dolphins was spotted ¼ mile off the Polruan N.C.I Station SX122508 at 0823 hrs in a calm sea.
13/3/05 6 Harbour Porpoises were within a 1km radius of Gwennap Head SW365217 in groups of 3, 2, and 1 from 1100 to 1130 hrs and 2 dolphins, thought to be Commons, were lounging about on the surface.
14/3/05  Greenpeace protesters have found 3 dead dolphins with their stomachs cut open floating at sea off the south west. Campaigners say the stomachs are likely to be slit open by fishermen in an effort to make them sink out of sight. They were found 40 miles south of Plymouth after Greenpeace volunteers in inflatable boats had disrupted pair trawling. .

19/3/05 A pod of about 7 Bottlenose Dolphins was seen heading west off Mutton Cove SW585433 passing between Godrevy Island and Godrevy Point into St. Ives Bay
19/3/05 A pod of about 7 Bottlenose Dolphins was spotted off Godrevy Cove SW580248 at 1530 hrs, heading west into St. Ives Bay. They were later seen passing Hayle Estuary and later at 1800 hrs moving around St Ives Island SW520413 into Porthmeor Beach SW515410. Small fish could be seen being flicked into the air by the dolphins, which were fairly active at the surface the whole time.
19/3/05 A pod of about 7 Bottlenose Dolphins was watched surfing with human surfers at Gwithian Towans SW579411 at 1530 hrs.
20/3/05 3 dolphins were spotted heading west off the coast between St Agnes and Porthtowan SW490690 during the afternoon
20/3/05 A pod of at least 7 Bottlenose Dolphins including one juvenile was seen feeding and slowly moving eastwards through the channel between Godrevy Island SW576435 and the mainland at 1740 hrs. A pair had been seen moving west through the channel about an hour earlier.
20/3/05 A Grey Seal was watched from the beach at Portnadler Bay SX245517 from 1300 to 1500 hrs. It was surfacing every 6 minutes or so in the same area and remaining on the surface for about 1 minute each time.

22/3/05 3 dolphins, possibly Bottlenose, were seen at the edge of the bay at Sennen. SW3526. Two jumped clear of the water and all three were watched as they porpoises northwards across the bay toward Cape Cornwall.

22/3/05 The carcass of a dead, very decomposed Pilot Whale was found washed up just north of Sprey Point near Teignmouth SX940730. It was about 4.5 metres long with no obvious wounds and due to location, size, and state of the animal there will be no post mortem.
22/3/05 A large pod of dolphins, at least 75 in number, including some juveniles, was seen heading west off St. Agnes Head, SW697515. A stationary observer watched for 15 minutes as they went past and others followed as the observer walked westward on the coast path.
They were too distant to be sure of species but were described as 2 to 3 metres long and light grey/ brown in colour. Many sea birds were in attendance.

21/4/05 A 15ft Basking Shark was found dead entangled in a fishing net about 20 miles offshore from Cadgwith When the fisherman released it the carcass sank.

They were about 2½ miles off shore and there was a lot of activity with much splashing and jumping, probably chasing fish for there were several gannets diving around them. 3/6/05 British Divers Marine Life Rescue unit was alerted at noon to a live dolphin stranding at Gwithian SW579411. A team of 15 or more trained volunteers, including a Vet and 2 veterinary nurses, were immediately sent. A re-float was established after 6 hours but unfortunately it resulted in a re-strand. After a discussion between the BDMLR director and the Vet it was decided on euthanasia and a post mortem for the Striped Dolphin

9/6/05 A pod of 6 to 8 Bottlenose Dolphins was moving continually from side to side of the bay at Sennen SW3526 from 1830 to 1930 hrs. A canoeist followed the pod resulting in the pod increasing speed, and jumping as they went, which was not observed previously. The pod was then harassed by the Lifeboat, the inshore lifeboat,  and the canoeist. The large Lifeboat circled the pod twice before switching off its engine and the inshore boat followed and put one member into the water with the dolphins, but the dolphins moved into deeper water.

14/6/05 3 Bottlenose Dolphins were seen heading west inside The Goose off Pentire Point East SW780615 in position 50º24.85N. 5º7.30W. There was seven eighths cloud, water 15ºC, Wind force 3 with a 2 ft swell.

14/6/05 A pod of Bottlenose Dolphins, including 2 juveniles, was off St. Ives at 0830 hrs.
17/6/05 A 4 metre Basking Shark and 4 Bottlenose Dolphins were seen 3 Miles south east of Cadgwith SW722142. The shark was just cruising but the dolphins were chasing small fish at the surface and Gannets were diving in the area.

18/6/05 A pod of 8 Bottlenose Dolphins, including 2 calves, was harassed and unintentionally herded into Hayle Estuary by several boats following to take photographs, on a rapidly falling tide almost causing the dolphins to become stranded. British Divers Marine Life Rescue Unit was in the area and with the help of beach lifeguards they dealt with the situation. The pod was spotted off Carbis Bay later in the afternoon and off St. Ives in the evening. The incident was reported to the police.
